Replace-by-fee (RBF), explained (4 minute read)
On November 23, a Bitcoin user executed a transaction attracting attention due to an unusually high transaction fee of $3.1 million for transferring 139.42 Bitcoin.
This remarkable fee established a new record as the eighth-highest in Bitcoin's history, surpassing the typical transaction fee by an astounding 119,980 times. The extraordinary cost can be attributed to the Bitcoin network's replace-by-fee (RBF) policy, introduced through BIP 125 and incorporated into the Bitcoin protocol with the release of Bitcoin Core version 0.12.0 in February 2016.
The RBF policy empowers users to replace pending transactions with new ones featuring higher transaction costs, providing flexibility in response to network conditions. So what is RBF?
Why DYDX insiders are unlikely to sell their $490M unlock (3 minute read)
The perpetuals trading platform and layer-1 blockchain, dYdX, is poised for a significant event this Friday as founders, investors, and key project stakeholders gain access to approximately 150 million previously locked DYDX tokens, with a current valuation of around $490 million.
This unlocking event will increase the circulating supply of DYDX by approximately 80%. While conventional wisdom often suggests that token unlocks could be bearish due to a sudden surge in supply against static demand, dYdX's performance has defied this trend. Despite the upcoming unlock, DYDX's price has surged by 30% this month, and open interest has expanded following the transition of dYdX's chain to beta mainnet on November 14.
It's worth noting that native DYDX holders may face challenges in mass selling, given that DYDX is not currently traded on centralized exchanges but is listed on Osmosis, a decentralized exchange within the Cosmos ecosystem.
